CANADIAN INTERNATIONAL TRADE TRIBUNAL ISSUES FINDINGS
COPPER PIPE FITTINGS FROM THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, THE REPUBLIC OF KOREA AND THE PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF CHINA
Ottawa, Ontario, February 19, 2007 - The Canadian International Trade Tribunal today issued findings following its injury inquiry into a complaint by Cello Products Inc. of Cambridge, Ontario, that dumped imports of copper pipe fittings from the United States of America, the Republic of Korea and the People’s Republic of China and subsidized imports of copper pipe fittings from the People’s Republic of China have injured Canadian producers.
The Tribunal will issue the reasons for its findings on March 6, 2007.
On August 8, 2006, the Tribunal determined that there was a reasonable indication that the alleged dumping and subsidizing had injured Canadian producers and, on October 23, 2006, initiated an injury inquiry. On January 18, 2007, the CBSA made a final determination of dumping and subsidizing.
As the Tribunal has found that the dumping of copper pipe fittings from the United States of America, the Republic of Korea and the People’s Republic of China and the subsidizing of copper pipe fittings from the People’s Republic of China have caused injury to the domestic industry, anti-dumping and countervailing duties will continue to be collected by the CBSA.
The Tribunal is an independent quasi-judicial body that reports to Parliament through the Minister of Finance. It hears cases on dumped and subsidized imports, safeguard complaints, complaints about federal government procurement and appeals of customs and excise tax rulings. When requested by the federal government, the Tribunal also provides advice on other economic, trade and tariff matters.
