CANADIAN INTERNATIONAL TRADE TRIBUNAL ISSUES ORDERS

WOOD SLATS FROM MEXICO AND CHINA

Ottawa, Ontario, July 15, 2009—The Canadian International Trade Tribunal today issued orders following the expiry review of its findings made on June 18, 2004, in Inquiry No. NQ-2003-003, concerning the dumping of wood slats originating in or exported from Mexico and the People’s Republic of China.

The Tribunal found that the dumping of wood slats from Mexico and China was unlikely to result in injury. The Canada Border Services Agency will therefore not continue to impose anti-dumping duties on these products.

The Tribunal is an independent quasi-judicial body that reports to Parliament through the Minister of Finance. It hears cases on dumped and subsidized imports, safeguard complaints, complaints about federal government procurement and appeals of customs and excise tax rulings. When requested by the federal government, the Tribunal also provides advice on other economic, trade and tariff matters.
